Jesus is “the firstborn of all creation” (Col 1:15). How is it that Christ is the firstborn? According to Genesis 2:7, Adam was the first human created, “the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being”. The Apostle Paul is reaching beyond the creation of mankind to when, “God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness” (Genesis 1:26). Jesus Christ as part of the Godhead was part of that decision. He said to the Jews who opposed Him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am” (Jn. 8:58). Thus Jesus referred to His deity and also claimed preeminence over Abraham.
